Gretsch Acoustic Drums

Gretsch is one of the oldest and iconic drum brands in the country and in music in general. As a drum manufacturer, Gretsch introduced the first ever multi-ply drum shell and even pushed forward drum sets with double bass drums. The look and sound of Gretsch has been a staple in music for so long it’s amazing that Gretsch is still one of the leading brands in drumming.

The Gretsch brand has changed hands on a few occasions including having been acquired by Fender and then sold to DW Drums (Drum Workshop), but despite the ownership changes, the sound and style has stayed consistent.

For the most part the production of Gretsch drums have been part of a family business. From 1883 to 1967 Gretsch was run in the Gretsch family which included Friedrich Gretsch and his sons Bill Gretsch and Fred Gretsch Jr.
In 1967 Fred Gretsch Jr. Sold the company to Baldwin out of necessity. Fred W. Gretsch, the great grandson of the founder of Gretsch bought the company back from Baldwin in 1985 and made sure that the family had it’s hands on the future of the Gretsch brand.

The USA made Broadkaster Seriers is the iconic vintage Drumset from 1935 that helped bring fame to the Gretsch brand. The great sound has been refined and approved as it was rereleased as a modern “vintage” Drumset in 2014. This helped revitalize the great vintage look and sound that made Gretsch famous.

The family of famous drummers that use and endorse Gretsch is quite vast and has helped define the great Gretsch sound.
