Some of Ludwigs fame has been in their staple Black Beauty Snare Drum that was introduced in the early parts of the 1900s and is still one of the most sought after snare drums in the world of drumming, used by both touring drummers and studio drummers alike. There are even Black Beauty Snare Drum samples that are in high demand.

The Ludwig Brand reached a peak in popularity that has kept them in the hearts and minds of drummers around the world, when Ringo Starr of The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in front of millions of viewers, playing on a Ludwig Black Oyster Drumset. The popularity growth continued to skyrocket as John Bonham of Led Zeppelin continued the trend of music industry changing drummers embracing the brand.

Ludwig has changed hands several times in it’s existence yet has maintained a consistency in sound, look and quality. All drum manufacturers have been challenged to compete with low prices of cheaper made drums when coming to reaching the expansive beginner and intermediate markets.
